5 Things You Should Always Buy With Your Credit Card

We’ll admit — it’s not a good idea to use your credit card if you can’t make significant payments on time, because you’ll be paying interest on your revolving balance. But if you’re a responsible credit card user, there are some things that you should always buy with your credit card. “There are some nice perks associated with using a credit card,” according to Curtis Arnold, founder of CardRatings.com, in an interview with Main Street. “But all these perks never get utilized because people don’t know about them.”

Below, we’ve listed the five things you should always buy with your credit card. Not only will putting these purchases on plastic make your life easier, but you’ll earn rewards while you’re at it:

1. Bills, bills, bills. Are you already diligent about paying your credit card bills on time? You’re missing out by not enrolling your phone, electric, and other bills to your credit card’s autocharge facility. Doing this has several advantages: You earn rewards points on your card for bills you already pay anyway You only have to remember one due date You don’t have to waste time falling in line paying for bills All you have to do is pay your credit card bill at the end of the month and all your bills are taken care of HSBC cards have AutoCharge, which allows you to enroll your PLDT, Globe, Sun Cellular, and SkyCable bills, among others. EastWest Bank credit cards also have a Quick Bills Facility covering utility and telco bills, and even Philam Life and PhilPlans. Check whether your credit card has an autocharge feature. Enrolling is as simple as filling out a quick form, and once you’ve done that, you don’t have to worry about bill payments falling through the cracks any more. Remember, though, that if you close your credit card, you should update your bill payment methods as well so you don’t run into difficulties.

2. Plane tickets. Travel is expensive. And when you figure in the cost of travel insurance, it adds up to even more. Fortunately, many credit cards give you complimentary travel insurance when you buy your plane tickets with your card. When you pay with cash, you don’t get this benefit, so when it comes to travel, always buy with your credit card. Security Bank’s Gold Mastercard gives you free insurance when you use your card to buy tickets, so you can prepare for flight delays, cancellations, and other mishaps that may occur on your trip (knock on wood). RCBC Bankards have the Travel Plus Lite and Plus Insurance programs, which provides cover for accidental death, dismemberment, and/or disablement, recovery of travel expenses for cancellations and terminations, and travel inconvenience benefits like baggage and flight delays. So when you book your flights, using a credit card with free travel insurance will give you peace of mind.

3. Appliances and electronics. Things break easily. The fancy gadgets and appliances you buy may or may not come with their own warranties. What a lot of people don’t know is that buying these things with a credit card can provide warranty (if the thing you bought doesn’t come with one) or extend it, giving you protection on your new purchase. Simply paying for these purchases with a credit card gives you an extra layer of security, knowing that you get stronger warranty assurances than if you just paid for it with cash. Read the fine print of your credit card to find out if you can get warranty by using it. For example, the BDO American Express Gold Credit Card insures any purchase you make with the card from theft, loss or damage within 30 days (up to P50,000 per occurrence). The PNB Essentials Card covers your purchased items against accidental damage and theft for 90 days from the date of purchase.

4. Overseas purchases. Exchanging money to foreign currencies when traveling is a sure-fire way to lose money. If you exchange at a Travelex at the airport, you get worse rates than you’d get at the bank. A foreign bank, while giving you better rates than currency exchanges, usually charges an extra fee if you don’t already have an account with them. And if you have money left over at the end of your trip and you change it back to pesos, you’ll essentially lose money twice due to the unfavorable exchange rates you get. Of course, you could always withdraw money from an ATM using your ATM card, but that comes with its own fees. Using a credit card while you’re travelling abroad helps you avoid these charges. Let’s look at this example. BPI credit cards charge a 0.75% foreign currency conversion fee, along with an additional 1% Visa or 0.8% MasterCard assessment fee. Meanwhile, making a foreign currency withdrawal with a BPI ATM card charges a 2% fee (if over US$175; if below that, the charge is US$3.50). And that doesn’t include the fees that the ATM you’re using will charge you — for example, Bank of America charges $3 for non-Bank of America customers. Check out how using a credit card abroad instead of making foreign currency withdrawals can save you money: credit card calculations This P539.40 you save adds up to much more if you make a lot of purchases abroad. Of course, you should still have some cash on you when you travel for emergencies and small purchases, but as much as possible, use your credit card, especially if the fees are more favorable for you. Always remember to check the foreign currency transaction fees for your card so you know that you’re getting the best deal. And with some cards, you’ll earn rewards much faster when you use your card for travel. The HSBC Platinum Visa lets you earn 4x the bonus points on overseas purchases.

5. Online purchases. There are a lot of payment methods out there now that let you buy things online, but credit cards are still the easiest, most secure way to pay for these purchases. The warranties you can get with your credit card (see #3) apply to your online purchases, so if it’s lost in transit or damaged within the time period, you can file a claim with your credit card institution. Many cards also provide virtual credit card numbers you can use to shop online with. Simply check with your bank for your virtual credit card options to keep your account secure when you buy things from online stores. Some cards come with additional protections for online purchasing. Security Bank cards come with eSecure, which lets you set limits on your internet purchases to lessen the likelihood of internet fraud making a significant dent in your bank account. Benefits like these aren't available with Cash on Delivery options or wire transfer payments, so these purchases should always be made with plastic.

Starting a Travel Agency

These days, travel agents may work from home or at an office as most travel arrangements are made online. To start a travel agent business, it is helpful to have a working knowledge of travel agent software, customer service experience and experience in travelling to different parts of the world. If you want to start your own travel agency, here are some tips given by www.smallbusiness.chron.com, when starting a travel agency business.

Decide whether to become an independent travel consultant or owner of a travel agency. Independent travel consultants earn commissions for the work they do for a travel agency. Consultants may work from home or in an agency's office. As a consultant, you may be limited in the types of travel services you can provide clients. Purchasing.a franchise allows you to build a business on an already successful brand, but you may still be limited in the types of services you can provide. Starting your own agency allows you to sell a wider variety of travel services while allowing you keep all the proceeds from each sale.

Determine the types of travel services to offer to clients. Travel services include transportation arrangement  (air, train, boat, car, hotel and resort reservations, cruise packages and specialized tour packages such as eco-tours or city-based tours. You may also want to specialize exclusively in family travel, senior travel, corporate travel or academic travel to set your business apart from other travel agencies.

Lease a space for your travel agency or work from home. Contact local commercial real estate agents to find available retail space. Choose a space in a busy retail area with ample parking. The space should be large enough to meet with clients while housing computer equipment, furniture and marketing materials. If working from home, create a space that allows you to work comfortably at your computer while providing adequate storage for computer equipment and software, marketing materials and files.

Create a website. Include a description of travel services, contact information and on-line booking options. Invest in computer software programs that process client bookings and payment from your website, track online marketing campaigns and captures email addresses.

Purchase general liability or home-based business insurance. Protect your business in the event of a lawsuit or settlement. Worker's compensation insurance may be necessary if hiring employees. This insurance helps pay the costs incurred through an accident or injury at the workplace.

Create marketing materials. Create materials such as brochures, business cards and flyers to promote your travel agency. Build a client list that includes email addresses, travel preferences, past travel destinations. Send email updates of travel specials, events or other information of interest to clients each business quarter to encourage sales.

Cause of Liver Damage

I just saw these article while I'm having rounds in different forums I'm accustomed to visit so I thought I want it to share it with you. It's informative nevertheless.

The main causes of liver damage are:
1. Sleeping too late and waking up too late are main cause.
2. Not urinating in the morning.
3. Too much eating.
4. Skipping breakfast.
5. Consuming too much medication.
6. Consuming too much preservatives, additives, food coloring, and artificial sweetener.
7. Consuming unhealthy cooking oil. As much as possible reduce cooking oil use when frying, which includes even the best cooking oils like olive oil. Do not consume fried foods when you are tired, except if the body is very fit.
8. Consuming raw (overly done) foods also add to the burden of liver.
Veggies should be eaten raw or cooked 3-5 parts. Fried veggies should be finished in one sitting, do not store.

Reasons:

Evening at 9 - 11pm: is the time for eliminating unnecessary/toxic chemicals (detoxification) from the antibody system (lymph nodes). This time duration should be spent by relaxing or listening to music. If during this time a housewife is still in an unrelaxed state such as washing the dishes or monitoring children doing their homework, this will have a negative impact on health.

Evening at 11pm - 1am: is the detoxification process in the liver, and ideally should be done in a deep sleep state.

Early morning 1 - 3am: detoxification process in the gall, also ideally done in a deep sleep state.
Early morning 3 - 5am: detoxification in the lungs. Therefore there will sometimes be a severe cough for cough sufferers during this time. Since the detoxification process had reached the respiratory tract, there is no need to take cough medicine so as not to interfere with toxin removal process.
Morning 5 - 7am: detoxification in the colon, you should empty your bowel.

Morning 7 - 9am: absorption of nutrients in the small intestine, you should be having breakfast at this time. Breakfast should be earlier, before 6:30am, for those who are sick. Breakfast before 7:30am is very beneficial to those wanting to stay fit. Those who always skip breakfast, they should change their habits, and it is still better to eat breakfast late until 9 - 10am rather than no meal at all.

Sleeping so late and waking up too late will disrupt the process of removing unnecessary chemicals. Aside from that, midnight to 4:00 am is the time when the bone marrow produces blood. Therefore, have a good sleep and don't sleep late.

Smart Way to Manage your Money

Make Money
Smart way to manage your money

These are the perspective of a novice and inexperienced individual, who just want to share his view or so called "my one cent" about how to manage your money in a smart way. It is not intended for reference or as a source of professional information. I'm just here to share "my one cent".

10. Invest in jewelry, antiques and arts.
- If you have a spare money and you're into collecting jewelry, antiques and precious arts, these would be your best bet to get some extra cash. Selling these items would definitely give you an instant cash because it's easy to sell these and very lucrative too.

9. Invest in pre-need plans.
- Though these might not be a good time to buy pre-need plans, still if let say the world economy turns good and rebound from recession, you will be able to use the money you invested on these company in the long run.

8. Buy foreign currencies.
- Yes, that's right buy foreign currencies. Buy currency that has a higher conversion rate versus your own country money.

7. Be common entrepreneur.
- As much as possible be one of those who take risk to open-up a business, though you might not get your investment soon but if you continue to improve your services and products, sooner or later consumers will flock to buy your products and render service from you.

6. Invest in real estate.
- Make sure if you're going to buy real estate, try to review the saleability of the area.

5. Buy Stocks
- Some might say that this is not the right time to buy stock because it is much riskier. I don't think that's the case now. Stock prices are much lower compare before because capital investor try to bargain their stock to attract more investor.

4. Invest in bonds.
- A bond is a formal contract to repay borrowed money with interest at fixed intervals. So if you are a blue risk-taker this one is for you, a faster way to get your investment back.

3. Maintain a savings account.
- It is common for all of us to save money but be sure to deposit it in a bank rather than keeping it with you. Needless to say that it is much safer and you can even get interest from it if you invest in banks.

2. Invest in mutual funds.
- Is a professionally managed type of collective investment scheme that pools money from many investors and invests it in stocks, bonds, short-term money market instruments, and/or other securities.

1. Pay debts.
- It is self-explanatory, if you have debt either be credit card, loans and the same, pay it first or make sure that you separate some amount of your income on paying debts. As much as possible if you have extra money and you have nothing else to use it for, try to pay it on your debts.

Tips to save on your electricity bills.

In these time around, as with all the prices goes up such as Oil, Food and Services. I believe that one of the major consumption in our house is electricity. We might want to do some small adjustment with our daily consumption of electricity to be able to lower our cost of electricity bills. Here's some good and practical tips:

Air Conditioner:
- Taking off at least two hours from aircon usage helps save as much as 20% in electricity bills.
- Cleaning the aircon filter once or twice a month can cut energy consumption by 5 to 15%.
- Turning off the aircon at dawn and using electric fan instead can help save 35% of your electricity bills.
- You also need to consider where you install the unit. If you are mounting an air conditioner near the corner of the room, look for a unit that can send the airflow in the right direction. Do not position heat-producing appliances such as television or lamp near the thermostat because the heat they produce "fools" the thermostat and causes the unit to run longer than necessary.
- Close curtains over large glass areas to prevent up to 16 percent of heat transfer through the glass.
- Always look for the EER (energy efficient ratio) tag. The higher the EER, the more energy-efficient the aircon is.

Electric fan:
- It is best to use electric fans in mild summer days because it utilizes about 80 percent less energy than aircons.
- Don't let the bathroom fan run 10 or 15 minutes. Lightning a match can almost instantly vanish bathroom odor (be cautious when you use a match)
- Clean fan blades and motor regularly.

I know these might not be applicable to all, but I care to share it anyway! This are so practical that you may even know these already. Go save on your energy consumption so that you will still have enough budget for you basic needs.

Singing Tips

SINGING TIPS

Singing is one of my favorite past-time, when there's a moment of boredom I sing. And when in times that depression is knocking on my head I make sure I sing to an Up-beat song or at least listen to it. It keeps me on the mood and it gives me a few minutes of insanity. When in times of stress singing is my escape to harsh reality of life. It helps a lot in so many ways.

Here are some of the singing TIPS that I found helpful if you want to improve your singing skills:

When you are learning to sing, you are doing it to find out what your
voice is capable of, not someone else's. Be happy with what you have.
Be yourself.
· Try to stop smoking. Smoke sticks to your vocal cords and burns
them. Drink more water
· Try not to drink alcohol before and after singing. Alcohol dries out the
vocal cords. Drink more water.
· Try not to do drugs before singing. Drink more water.
· No more yelling or loud talking.
· Forget ice-cold drinks unless you have some sort of trauma to the
throat area, i.e. tonsils removed, that sort of thing. This tightens up
your vocal cords. They must be warm and loose in order for you to
sing easily.
· Don't talk too much. It wears down your vocal cords.
· Try to stay away from a lot of dust.
· Try to cough a little quieter.
· Coffee dries your vocal cords out. Drink more water.
· A singer should never get thirsty. Drink water before you get thirsty.
Thirst is a sign that you're dehydrated.
· Sleep regularly.
· Sleep more than enough.
· Don't sing every day.
· Don't eat before you go to bed. Don't eat for 3 hours before you
sleep.
· Don't sing any song out of your range.
· Don't sing your loudest for extended periods of time. Loud singing is the
fastest killer for your voice. Remember you have a mic. Turn the PA up.
· Try to sing softer without loosing the intensity and feeling in your
singing.
· Raspy, throaty and breathy singing are legitimate tools to make your
singing more interesting. (A lot of conservative teachers disagree with
me on this.) Bear in mind singing styles like these are all unhealthy
even if they're sometimes necessary and very effective. Don't overdo
it. Experiment. There are ways to use those techniques in a less
damaging way. And don't try do get more intense with volume!
· When playing with your band make sure you hear yourself well. The
band can turn down. Crank the PA.
· Use professional ear plugs.
· Get to know and understand the organs involved in singing.
· Start your Warm up before singing as softly as possible.
· Warm down after singing as softly as you can.
· Know what a scale is. Learn major, minor etc. Know what straight and
shuffle/swing means. Know basic time signatures.
· Good Pitch and good Time makes a singer good. Those are the two
most obvious things you have to master.
· Dairy products cause phlegm. Drink more water.
· Being hoarse in the morning does not mean you will be hoarse in the
evening.
· Being hoarse doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't sing.
· Don't take Antihistamines against Allergies.
· When being hoarse gargle with warm water containing 1/2 tsp each of
salt and baking soda.
· Learning how to sing well takes time. There are no shortcuts. Be
patient.
· Be aware of your registers (Chest, Head, Falsetto).
· Watch your register breaks. Smoothen them out. Bring your registers
together.
· If you have a headache and you need a painkiller take Tylenol (Not
Aleve, Motrin etc).
· Breathe deep and downwards.
· Know about your diaphragm. That's your support.
· Don't lift your shoulders when you breath in.
· Your tummy goes out when you breath in.
· For healthy singing try to make as little air as possible come out of
your mouth when you're singing.
· Unless it's called for, always stand with good posture (this does not
mean standing stiffly) when you sing.
· Don't lift your head when you reach for a high note.
· Keep the tip of you tongue below your teeth.
· You're born with a range. You can not change it.
· Use all your range.
· You're not born with a vocal sound. You choose your sound. Use your
internal EQ.
· Think about your resonance rooms (Chest, Mouth, Nose, Head) and
where your sound comes from.
· Smiling while singing often gives you a better, modern sound than a l
loose jaw.
· Don't exhaust yourself the day before a performance.
· Pineapple juice can help when your voice is tired.
· Choose your personal mic that fits to your voice. Try a bunch.
· Learn good mic technique.
· Know the basic concepts of compression, EQ, Deessing, Reverb and
Delay.
· Imitating other singers can be good and bad. You want to be unique
but everybody has their influences. Copy them and find your own.
· Record yourself as much as you can. Try different sounds and
expressions.
· Get used to your voice.
LOVE YOUR VOICE

10 Laws for a better Life these New Year!

I've read one article i saw in the inquirer which was written by Dr. Phillip McGraw in his book Life strategies-Stop Making Excuses. I find it appropriate to whoever wants to make some changes to improve their lives these New Year. The lessons are in a set of life laws designed to strengthen our lives.
10 Laws for a better life
Life Law No. 1: You either get it or you don't.
* Others might say that the ingredient to success is "Don't make foolish mistakes" but what my say is that none of us makes perfect decision no matter how you can figure out the right from wrong, all we need to understand is how you can live your life without worrying if were doing the right thing but rather doing what is appropriate at the right place in the right time. And also know the difference between living and existing. Meaning your not eating just for the sake of being full but rather taste what you eat and be full.

Life Law No. 2: You create your own experience.
* We create our own destiny. These is definitely true because we do have a choice whether to choose to be miserable the rest of our lives or be happy and joyous in times of troublesome and trials. We need to accept and acknowledge that we are responsible for our own life.

Life Law No.3: People do what works.
* If we know that in every actions that we do there's payoff either be good or bad then we can at least grasp what would be the outcome of each actions that we made. A little control doesn't hurt.

Life Law No.4: You can't change what you don't acknowledge.
* Willingness to accept our weaknesses and shortcomings can make a big impact in our lives. It doesn't mean your sort of a loser but It only means that you are aware that we as a human do make mistakes and need to be guided accordingly. Living in denial is a no no..Address the denial in your life or else continue to deceive yourself.

Life Law No.5: Life rewards action.
* The Better explanation here is that Thought without action is useless. So better do something about it and be the best of the things that you do.

Life Law No.6: There is no reality, only perception
* This is guite complicated in a way in which each of us has different interpretation of the things that we see and do. The only exception would be on how we value the things that come and go in our lives. Meaning what you see in a situation is the value you give it this is your reality. And how you look at it determine your happiness and peace.

Life Law No.7: Life is managed; it is not cured.
* Accepting your life situation is crucial. You might like it or you don't it depends how much you value your life. It is better to understand that life is not easy so be sure to manage it wisely and stand strongly among the tides.

Life law No.8: We teach people how we treat us.
* This is evidently true, One given situation is that If we allow ourselves to be put down by others then people will tend to do that to us and vice versa.

Life law No.9: There is power in forgiveness.
* Anger and bitterness is poison to our body. It corrupts our mind and deteriorates our body. The only cure for these is forgiveness. To forgive all the people who hurted us and those who made fool of us. It make us more happier each day that we forgive on each and every person who made some wrong doings to us.

Life law No.10: You have to name it to claim it.
* It is self-explanatory. You need to know what you want so that you know what your going to claim. Don't be blinded about the things you don't expect that it will come but rather expect what your going to claim because of the action that you've done. Recognize the behavior or traits to support your goal, it will be a big help to achieve it. So be happy!

* TIPS ON BUYING CELLPHONE (second-hand vs brand new)

I was once a victim of secondhand junk cellphones which I bought in Grand Central Monumento, a haven of secondhand cellphones. You will see different choices from brand new to all trash one. For some having the latest cellphone is trendy or swanky but how if the cellphone that you have is a scrap and it was a reconditioned, I don't find that cool. right? Well I can't blame those who patrionize secondhand cellphones maybe they just want to be up-to-date to what's new in cellphone technology.

biteTips:
If you choose to buy secondhand cellphone just be sure that you get warranty coz there's some stores who give at least a month of warranty if something wrong happen on your cellphone. Also, before you leave the store make sure you try the cellphone upfront to see if theres a defect on it.

TIPS BEFORE BUYING UKAY-UKAY (used clothes)

Ukay-Ukay (term for used clothes) was really a booming business in the Philippines not just because it's inexpensive but also it has stylish and chic design. Most of it came from different countries like china, japan and even in the US. I must admit that I was one of the avid (suki) buyer of ukay-ukay. I usually find stylish pants, jackets and even dresses.
biteTips: You might see overrun, some holes or washed-off clothes so be careful on picking your choice.

TIPS: You need to set your mind straight what clothes are you going to buy before you enter the store. Why? basically because you will encounter with so many choices of different sets of clothes, better yet try to look only on specific type of clothes, so that you could pick the best of your interest. Be cautious about your belongings (wallet or cp), you might not know if theres pick-pocket looking around to eye a victim. Need to mention there are some stores that has no air-conditioned so be sure to bring your handkerchiefs or towel if you sweat a lot. By the way there are clothes that still has a tag which is still new, HAPPY SEARCHING!

TOP TIP: BRING ONLY A SMALL AMOUNT OF MONEY SO THAT YOU DON'T OVERSPEND, A FEW HUNDRED BUCKS IS GOOD ENOUGH.
